Jabba's Comments

Outstanding keeper who was a fixture for 8 years at the club. It was lucky for Leeds he decided to become a footballer, since he was an outstanding athlete and cricketer at school, and continued to play the summer game during his time with Leeds. Retired at the comparatively young age of 28 and went on to run a bookies and take a prominent role in the PFA.

Roy says: I'm still alive and kicking!

Ric Powell says: As Roy's step-son, I am more than qualified to say that he is the most friendly 'gentle giant' you could ever wish to meet!! Roy never uses his status as an ex-player to enhance anything in his life!

Jabba says: thanks to Ric for the photos - the first of Roy in action (looks like one that got away unfortunately) and the second is of Roy accepting a cricket bat from Leeds City Fire Brigade Recreation Club at the Capitol Ballroom on 28 September 1955.

Matt Bergh says: i am roy's great nephew matthew bergh i think he is great and very very funny.

Brian Thomas says: Royden Wood (Sunday Name) One of the great shot stoppers, In the end playing behind Jack (Giraffe) Charlton made him a nervous wreck.

Jack Charlton says: What a legend!

Androulla French nee Pissides says: Roy, were you in Cyprus between 1970-1974? and if so do you have a daughter called Deborah?

Simon Garforth...(Wade Removals) says: A couple of years ago I moved Roy and his family when they moved house, what a fine bloke.. He gave me an old kit bag of his and signed it to my son david..Well just to let you know we still have it and thanks Roy I hope you remember..
