Post by Selby White »

Les of course one of the key elements of our most successful team as the Dons right hand man and certainly deserves his place in our "Hall of Fame"

Following a modest playing career as a striker for both Stockport County (43goals in 173 games) and Accrington Stanley (48 goals in 122 games) Les turned to coaching been one of the first to get a FA coaching certificate.
In 1958 his first job was at Luton Town but came to Leeds in 1960 and set to work making the team fitter, faster and stronger with his legendary drills.

In 1962 England manager Walter Winterbottom made him trainer of the national squad a job he did part time alongside his Leeds Utd duties. Of course he stayed on and was part of Sir Alfs team for that historic 1966 tournament.
Hence Les was trainer of both the best national team and best Club side in world football at the same time, not too many will have that on their CV.

In 1974 when Don Revie left Leeds he took Les with him and made him full time national team trainer.
Les also stuck with Don when he managed the UAE in 1977.

His final coaching job was at Doncaster Rovers in 1979 under their manager a certain Billy Bremner.

Thank You Les
