There aren't many football teams that had 2 top 10 hits. Our other big hit in 72 'Leeds United' also reached no 10. It was based on a song by Miki Antony called 'Sally Sunshine' with all the lyrics changed to incorporate all the players names. I have both versions.
In our two League winning seasons under the Don (1969 & 1974) our top scorer didn't reach 20 goals.
On both occasions Mick Jones top scored with 17.
However the seasons in between and either side when we didn't win it our top scorer surpassed the 20 goal milestone.
1968 - Peter Lorimer - 30
1970 - Mick Jones & Allan Clarke - 26
1971 - Allan Clarke - 23
1972 - Peter Lorimer - 29
1973 - Allan Clarke - 26
1975 - Allan Clarke - 22
Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you.
During his stint as Leeds United Manager in the late 1940's, Major Buckley began using the services of a chemist named Menzies Sharp, who claimed to have a 'secret remedy' to improve mental and physical fitness and stamina. Given by injection, it was believed to be 'Monkey Gland Serum'.
When Major Buckley had used it previously at Wolves, there were reports of 'glazed eyes', hypnotic influence, superman performances.
The controversy reached the House of Commons, but the Football league could find no reason to ban it.

Didn't one of our players go on to star in the 'King Kong' films?
