Next set -

82. Oslo
Visited the city on a Baltic cruise. Had a city tour which we enjoyed but at the end with the ship in sight we decided on having a beer at a harbour side bar, OW MUCH was the cry.

88. Muscat (Oman)
Again a city tour taking in the Royal Opera House, Mutrah Corniche & Al Jalali Fort. The one thing that sticks out are the roundabouts which are incredible look up the Clock Roundabout or Muttrah Roundabout. This is a very wealthy country & without doubt the cleanest. Also worth visiting are the Souks which for the shoppers are heaven. We did a road trip from Muscat to Salaha which was excellent but a lot of restaurants on the roadside wouldn’t allow the girls to sit in the dining area they had to sit in a side room, which didn’t go down well. Again an expensive place to drink luckily we managed to get a fair bit through duty free. Two of our party who we met up as a group at Heathrow didn’t drink but were more than happy to buy duty free for the rest of us.

Two for me in the next batch -
81. Vienna
82. Oslo
83. Frankfurt
84. Lyon
85. Minsk
86. Yekaterinburg (Russia)
87. Islamabad
88. Muscat (Oman)
89. Dubai
90. Jeddah (Saudi Arabia)

The two been Vienna & Lyon (although have changed flights at Frankfurt airport).

Spent a week in Vienna and enjoyed it, we stayed close to the large fun fair (Prater) and the famous ferris wheel. We always try to make our city visits around a week so can really get to know the face. As usual we toured the city by foot from numerous self guided walking tours we had printed off line, different one each day.
One thing we do on holiday is in the middle of the week search out a local Chinese Restaurant just for a change from the local restaurants, its one of our challenges :D . One list Vienna tops for us is the best Chinese, awesome food.

We also often visit music clubs (Jazz Blues, etc) for evening entertainment and found a good little Jazz Club one night for a few drinks. We had been there awhile when an old gentleman came in and sat at the table in front of us.
Wasn't long before he started falling asleep and looked unwell, we ended up having to hold him up to stop him falling off his chair.
He wasn't drunk just unwell so the barman brought him a glass of water and phoned an Ambulance.
While waiting for the medics to arrive Mrs SW was nursing him and he was trying to talk to her in a mix of English & Austrian but she couldn't understand.
Eventually the medics arrived and took him away to be sorted out but not before he gave Mrs SW his card with his name, he was a Professor.
Talking to the barman afterwards he told us he comes to the club most nights and is a very famous musician in Austria who used to play with Louis Armstrong.

Lyon - To be honest only had one night there on route to the French Alps and can't remember anything about it.

So folks as this is the interview section of the forum my questions to all members -

1. Of the places you have been on this list which are your 5 favourites and why (less if you've not done 5) ?

2. If you could choose another 5 from the list you have not yet been to, which would they be ?

And of course keep any stories coming,

Only the one for me as well DC we visited for a couple of nights at the end of our Toronto trip. Did the White House, well peered through a fence, The Lincoln Memorial, Capitol Hill, the National Mall & the Washington Monument. The highlight was a visit to the Smithsonian Aviation Museum which was outstanding. We made friends with an ex bookmaker John & his wife Joan who it appeared were on permanent holiday :D on the final night we ate at the Old Ebbitt Grill, dining on oysters ( except me ) stunning ribs & fried chicken washed down with a lot of wine, not cheap but well worth it.

Final total 36/100 was doing so well

1. Of the places you have been on this list which are your 5 favourites and why (less if you've not done 5) ?

For me -
1 Chicago - Went for the first time in 2006 following a recommendation from a friend, actually went to the States to visit New York and wanted to add a 2nd City to my trip, glad I did. On lots of my trips over the pond I often add a few nights in Chicago, think I've seen enough of it to become a local guide :D

2. Budapest - If anyone asks my fav European City I answer Budapest. Have been twice and discovered more interesting places on my 2nd trip, possibly a 3rd visit may be required.

3. Berlin - Only been the once but it pushes Budapest close, actually feel I only scratched the surface of this great city so may need another trip.

4. Santiago - Love South America but with this a Buenos Aries the only 2 on the list that I've been to it was a toss up. Opted for the Chilean capital because it feels more South American and BA has a big European influence (if that makes sense).

5. Havana - Must go back but in a few years to see if its changed, hope not. Its refreshing to see somewhere that is free from commercialism. Totally different to anywhere else.

Was hoping that Cairns, Kota Kinabalu, Baltimore, Cagliari, Maputo, Georgetown, San Jose, Bucharest, Port of Spain, Kingston etc had made the cut :D

Washington was fun but we had fabulous weather & 2 days was enough. What really amazed us was the size of The Pentagon it was huge, never expected that.
