Re: Have You been ?
The daughter went to Venice last year for her 40th & loved it. Horses for courses I suppose. I do like Italy I must admit the cuisine is lovely. We probably frequent more Italian restaurants than anything else La Vecchia Scuola in York, Lanterna in Scarborough, Salvos in Headingley & La Scala in Paignton are all excellent. We have a good one near us as well Amores where the front of house staff make you so welcome.

Spent an afternoon there in the 1980's whilst on a business trip. Don't remember a whole lot about it other than seeing Piazza san Marco and going on a vaporetto. The setting and architecture are unique; unfortunately the whole world knows this....

In the early 2000's when my sales territory comprised eastern Europe I went a few times. Quite a Turkish influence noticable in much of the country, but my impression is that it suffered a lot during the communist times and hasn't had the resources to rebuild. Still it's an inexpensive destination with enjoyable food and wine along with a warm climate.
80. Budapest
Been twice. Spectacular setting on the Danube, the parliament building is a thing of beauty. As someone who tries to speak languages Hungarian frustrates the heck out me; the only word I can recall is 'etterem' which means restaurant
Definitely a place of happy memories and, as always, good to be shown around by one of the locals.
I'd love to fly there and rent a car and see some of Hungary's other cities.
So come on folks tell us your stories about any of the above cities
Might have to take an interest in the Premier League now....
