The guy's a legend here in Wigan.mintyshoe wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 09:47I’m not so sure it does - he’s neither old (by GK standards) or particularly experienced (similar number of games to Meslier). Surely the remit here was a highly experienced pro, international caps etc, at the end of their career with an eye on becoming a coach. Nothing against Joel, he comes across as a decent bloke, I just don’t think it’s what we needed.

It's also about personality - perhaps he's a really good teacher/mentor who's of similar character to Meslier and will be able to help him grow.Wigan White wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 10:19The guy's a legend here in Wigan.mintyshoe wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 09:47I’m not so sure it does - he’s neither old (by GK standards) or particularly experienced (similar number of games to Meslier). What do we do with Klaesson, let's not forget he played 50 something first team games in Norway before joining us? He's around the stage Meslier was when he was thrown in at the Deep end imho. Possibly even stronger.
Must admit I don't go along with the teacher bit, you employ a goalkeeping coach for that. Do we know if he's any good in that field anyway ?

Agreed. If the club thought it was necessary then it's up to them, but this signing doesn't really interest me. Striker please!Selby White wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 14:28 What do we do with Klaesson, let's not forget he played 50 something first team games in Norway before joining us? Quite a few outlets reporting we have made a move for £6mil rated Ecuador and Los Angeles FC midfielder Jose Cifuentes. Possible replacement for Klich if he goes.

Kalimeundo joining Rennes instead.

Absolutely zero chance of this. Just lazy journalism.
Shame as he sounds a real talent, but I was never totally convinced that he was what we needed. Given reports suggest we hadn't actually put in a bid for him, the club must have somebody else lined up. Just hope they get them in the door soon, and aren't tempted to sit on the money until January and make the same mistakes as last season re squad size (same obviously goes for LB).

Che Adams rumours starting up again, though The Athletic have reportedly said it's a possibility, with So'ton willing to accept £10m which I just don't believe TBH. He lacks finesse but I think he'd be a top signing personally.
