Why would we let a specialist LB go, when it is the part of the team we're most in need of support?
I'm a fan of Hjelde for this position, and think he and Firpo duke it out for the starting spot, but neither are exactly world class.
Reckon we'll see an announcement within the next couple of days Bearskin. Seems unlikely they'd have let Davis go without having somebody lined up. Although maybe they were also of the view that shifting one of the many CBs left was a better option than Davis.
Tend to agree with Leo that first the most likely scenario is we will bring someone in.
However the 2nd theory that he isn't good enough for Prem level and they think others been moved into that position are still better. Looking at facts such as he didn't get game time at a top Championship Club and he's actually gone to League One sort of back up those thoughts.

I live in Augsburg (probably clear from my user name) and Philipp Max was great for FCA, reasonably strong in defence but great getting forward. Came close/into the Germany squad and made lot's of noise about wanting to leave to increase his international chances. Then left for PSV.
My mates were disappointed but could see why.

The other option is Gutierrez a 20 year old Real Madrid kid. I have never seen him play but Someone I know who is a huge la Liga guy said he has been impressive when he has played for them. I would take the German personally. Totally biased to the one I have seen play. Just want this left back stuff solved without too much more risk. A Spanish 20 year old with 5 senior games feels like the risky option to me. He is the pricier option too.

Apparently YEP saying we have been snubbed by Kalimuendo and CDK sounding dead in the water. Be interesting to see who else is on the striker list.

Let’s hope they have other striker targets. They seem to have messed about for far too long with this de Ketelaere - he never wanted to come to us. I think that Brereton-diaz would be worth signing. Quite a few Championship strikers have done well in the Premier League

Certainly found himself in fine form last year for club and country. I sometimes worry about domestic transfers, as the cost is incredibly inflated. Usually this is offset somewhat by familiarity with the English style of football. This mitigating effect for me is muted in Championship cases because of the significant gap between the PL and the Championship. Don't believe Brereton-Diaz has ever played in the PL (just Forest and Blackburn, yes?), but I've liked what I've seen so far.

I'd be happy if we signed him. We need someone. Even though we lost some games really heavily, our lack of attacking depth was the main reason for our struggle last season in my view.
